Hello, NDWBB! It’s been a while!
On Tuesday afternoon, we had the opportunity to attend a Notre Dame Women’s Basketball practice that was open to the public. It was a great feeling to be back inside Purcell Pavilion and see the women’s team LIVE!
The 2020-2021 season was “closed” to the public and most media had to watch from afar, attending press conferences via ZOOM. Even while having those opportunities, there is nothing like seeing the team in person on the hardwood!
Dara Mabrey and Sam Brunelle hitting their shots? CHECK. Anaya Peoples streaking down the court? CHECK. Abbie Prohaska hustling as always? CHECK. And even more! There were a lot of new faces on the court. While this was the first time for us to see Dara Mabrey in a Notre Dame uniform (Dara transferred to Notre Dame from Virginia Tech,) it was not the first time to see her play at Purcell. We definitely prefer seeing her in Irish Blue and Gold!
There are a few new faces on the team:
Maya Dodson (#0) - Maya is a graduate transfer from Stanford University. Maya missed the first 24 games of the 2019-20 season at Stanford due to a foot injury. She did appear in the final 9 games of that season, starting the last 7 games. She averaged 5 points and 3.7 rebounds upon her return to game action.
Sonia Citron (#11) – Sonia is a freshman from Scarsdale, New York. A two-time Gatorade Player of the Year (2020 and 2021) Sonia finished her high school career with 2,243 career points, and 1,192 career rebounds. She completed her high school career at The Ursuline School with 38 consecutive victories.
While Sonia and Maya are two of the newer faces to the Notre Dame Women’s Basketball program, it will be the first time for many fans to see Dara Mabrey in an Irish uniform. It’s a pleasure to add another Mabrey to the Irish family!
Your Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Team will take to the court at Purcell Pavilion on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 7 pm ET in an exhibition game vs Emporia State. The regular season starts on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 vs Ohio at Purcell at 7 pm. ET. We hope to see you there!
GO IRISH!
