Irish Freshmen Stylin’ and Diggin’ against North Carolina

Coach Brian Kelly has often been criticized for not playing his true freshman athletes enough, but last night, that was certainly not the case! Besides Tyler Buchner, Lorenzo Styles and Logan Diggs made their names known to all who were in attendance at Notre Dame Stadium or watching at home. The entire offense had their best game of the season scoring 44 points against the Tarheels. The offensive scheme last night saw Buchner passing for a touchdown to Avery Davis and Jack Coan running the ball for a 19 yard touchdown! Talk about “tricks and treats!”

Of course, the star of the night, once again, was Kyren Williams. When Kyren came off the field with what looked like a knee injury, the Irish faithful all held their breath. But just a few minutes later, he had his helmet back on and scored a spectacular 91 yard touchdown from scrimmage to put another 6 points on the scoreboard for Notre Dame.

Credit has to be given to North Carolina’s quarterback, Sam Howell. He managed to make the Irish defense look pretty awful at times. Our guess is that the defense will be working hard on tackling drills this week, especially with the triple option Navy team coming to South Bend next week!

The good news is that the Irish are now ranked #8 in both the AP News Poll and the Coaches Poll with their only loss to #2 Cincinnati while other teams ranked above them will eventually play each other. All the Irish have to do is keep on winning!

Go Irish! Beat Navy!
