Updated: Oct 2, 2022

Excitement was in the air at Compton Family Ice Arena on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The Notre Dame Hockey team kicked off the 2022 season with an exhibition game against the USNDTP program of USA Hockey.
The Irish came out firing, and 58 seconds into the game, # 12 Ryder Rolston got the puck past the USANDTP goalie, and the Irish took a 1-0 lead.
With 16:36 left in the game, #5 Chase Blackmun was hit with a 5-minute major penalty for interference. The USANDTP was able to get one past Bischel on their power play.
However, about 8 minutes later, # 28 Tyler Carpenter of the IRISH got the puck in the net, and the IRISH took a 2-1 lead over the USA team.
Notre Dame was again penalized, as Captain Nick Leivermann was sent to the box for interference. The IRISH defense proved strong on the penalty kill and did not allow a goal.
Until the last minute of the period, it looked as if The Fighting Irish would take a 2-1 lead over USANTDP. However, with 27.1 seconds left, the USA team got another puck past Bischel. After a quick review, it was ruled a good goal, and the teams went into the period break tied with two goals a piece.
Jack Adams of Notre Dame put the IRISH in the lead early in the 2nd as he got his first goal of the season.
It looked like Notre Dame was going to get another chance on a one-man advantage, as Team USA was hit with a penalty for roughing after the whistle. Unfortunately, Notre Dame was unable to take advantage and the score remained 3-2.
Just after killing the penalty, Team USA was able to get the puck past Bischel again, and with 2:53 left in the game, the score was tied at 3 goals each.
Things didn’t start off the right way for Notre Dame in the 3rd. Just after the period started, Plucinski was sent to the box for indirect contact to the head, and Team USA took advantage and was able to take their first lead in the game over the IRISH by a score of 4-3.
Another penalty kill was in the cards for the IRISH as Plucinski was again penalized, this time for interference. However, the IRISH successfully defended and were able to get back to full strength without Team USA scoring.
With 1.3 seconds on the clock, Team USA got the empty netter, and defeated the Irish by a score of 5-3.
The Irish will travel to Colorado next weekend. They play the #1 team in the country, Denver, on Friday, October 7. On October 8, they will play the US Air Force Academy. The team will return to the Compton Family Ice Arena to play Northern Michigan on Friday October 14 and again on Sunday October 16.
