Never A Doubt!

Wasn’t it nice to finally sit back and enjoy a Notre Dame football game without having an anxiety attack for a change? Saturday night’s 28-3 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers was just that kind of game.

The Irish offense ran like a fine-tuned machine with another outstanding performance by Kyren Williams. Williams has scored a touchdown now in 6 straight games. Lorenzo Styles, Chris Tyree and Logan Diggs all added to the Irish rushing total of 260 yards. Diggs showed off his hurdling skills on a 23-yard run when he leaped over the 6’2” Virginia defender, Anthony Johnson. Adding to the offensive total for the Irish was our strong receiving corps. Michael Mayer and Kevin Austin each added a touchdown catch, and Braden Lenzy finally had a breakout performance with his own leaping touchdown score.

Marcus Freeman’s defense almost had a shutout and hasn’t allowed a touchdown in the last 2 games. Ramon Henderson and DJ Brown both snatched INTs off Virginia’s freshman QB, Jay Woolfolk. Bo Bauer had a great game on defense along with Rylie Mills who contributed 2 sacks for the Irish and was awarded the game ball last night for his efforts. There were a lot of new names who contributed to the Irish defense including Prince Kollie, Clarence Lewis and Howard Cross.

The future looks good for the Irish with many young players on both sides of the ball making names for themselves, but next week, it will be time to say goodbye to the seniors. Tune in to NBC on Saturday, 11-20 at 2:30 PM ET when Notre Dame plays its last home game of the 2021 season against Georgia Tech.
